We did the AMC Halloween trail maintenance weekend up at Cardigan. The trails were in astoundingly good condition already. But I guess they try really hard to keep it in good shapebecause lots of people go there. For Saturday evening entertainment, there was a costume and a pumpkin judging contest and a candy game.

Trail Maintenance
Does the trail have water drainage off the side (like it should) or is it like many trails in the Whites that look like a small trench? Many trails up there are so overused that they need major work so they don’t turn into a stream.
On the Anonymous comment, we also cut a 81 cm(32″) solid oak twice on our section of wilderness trail about a month ago. The pictured tree had one hollow section cut (in the picture) and one solid tree cut.

Re: Trail Maintenance
The hiking trails are mostly trenches. The ski trails are wide enough and don’t get hiked on, so they drain fine.

AT Trail maintenance
Did we tell you about our 36 inch red oak cut twice with a cross-cut saw on the trail in a wilderness area where chain saws are not allowed?
