I just managed to install svn on my home server with ssh tunneling and a web viewer. Some days it is fun being a sysadmin. The nicely packaged software from Ubuntu definitely helps.
A couple days ago, we got the latest issue of Linux Journal. This one was on gadgets. It talked about how to hack the N810, but it didn’t have much interesting. It also talked about the Kindle. I think the e-ink book readers look really cool. However, the Kindle didn’t sound that great because it can’t handle a lot of data formats. So I went browsing around and found FBReader which is an ebook reader application that runs on a bunch of platforms including the N810. So I’ve been playing with that for the past few days. It took me a bit to figure out the controls, but otherwise my biggest complaint is that most of the big ebook stores (think Amazon.com) sell DRM protected books which it can’t read.
