a second close hit by the economy

Apparently my landlord got cut in the Dell layoffs today. Somehow having the guy who owns the house I live in loose his job is a little more unsettling than having some junior engineers at my company get let go. I guess it’s partially because I don’t know the consequences this time. With our layoffs we got told immediately that was it.

  • Presumably your rent check is one of his primary sources of income, and hopefully it’s more than his mortgage.

So if anything, you’re more important to him than before and more secure.

    • I actually doubt I am a primary source of income. This isn’t an apartment complex, just a house with an inlaw apartment. He was a software engineer at Dell, so I would assume that paid decently. And from calculating finances for my future house, I would guess that our rent only pays a few hundred more than property taxes.

I’m not terribly worried, especially since we are decent friends, and I’d probably hear way before anything got bad.
