We played bridge again at my place yesterday. This was not planned out well in advance, so I had to do some mad-dash cleaning as people showed up. Tyson does not play, so it was Ben, Steve, Shan, and I. The last two times Ben and I had been partners and had trounced the other two. Ben bids agressively — not all the way to the lounge standard — but still something I can easily interperet. This time I ended up partnered with Steve who bids more conservatively. It worked out fine, but I felt like I had to think a little bit more about the bidding. The scores came out about even. The two mistakes Ben and I made giving the other one a doubled contract were worth far more than the point delta. Now if only I can get to the point where I can stop asking about bidding conventions. Maybe I should make myself a card just as a cheat sheet for myself.
