Sunday, I got up early, finished packing, and headed out on my motorcycle. In some respects it might not have been the best morning for motorcycling (it was freezing out), but there was no rain forecast, and I was only going an hour away, so I sprang for it. Where I was going to was Pawtuckaway State Park to teach an AMC beginner rock climbing class. I did have to stop once to warm up, swap glasses, and re-read the directions.
Thor and I had 4 students. They pretty much knew nothing about climbing, so I got to start from the basics. They did about as expected for first and second time beginners. The reaction of “wait I just climbed that impossible wall! How the heck did I do that?” is always amusing. I only ended up climbing twice. And one of those was just because I needed to warm up from standing around. That time I didn’t bother swapping to my climbing shoes from my boots. I was kind of impressed at how much I could use my feet on the slab even without proper shoes. When all was said and done, everyone else hopped in their cars and headed off while I packed my motorcycle. Thor stayed around to make sure the motorcycle started ok and I wasn’t stranded. Previously Thor has made comments about motorcycles being unsafe and the like. So it was kind of fun having him ask me all sorts of questions about how it works and try sitting on it. He even said he’d be interested in me giving him a ride some time.
On the way home, I took a detour by the facilities for next week’s AMC activity. Hopefully that one will work out.
