Spring has fully arrived here. The first sign were the brilliant yellow bushes flowering in everyone’s yard (what are they?). And by now all sorts of trees are in flower and some starting to leaf out.
Wednesday, I decided to brave the high 80’s heat and go for my first bike ride of the year. I managed the short loop — 8 miles — without giving out. It’s a start for training for next year’s ski season. My heel started complaining the day after and I’m wondering if it is somehow related.
Saturday we drove to Maine so I could pick up a kayak I am considering buying. It was the first paddle of the year, so I was feeling incompetent and incapable. But generally my impression was I liked Tyson’s kayak better than the trial kayak. Although we were playing and surfing which would tend to favor Tyson’s. So I need give the kayak a second trial with longer distances. (Tyson’s kayak is a valid comparison because I know of a used one that is available right now.)
Sunday evening was the AMC climbing committee meeting where we schedule all our trips. I signed up to lead or help lead 3 of them. Hopefully that’s not too many. However it does mean that by the end of the year I should be a fully qualified climbing trip leader along with skiing. Oh, and I stuck my foot out and volunteered to be ski committee co-chair, but that was all under the table since officially it was a climbing meeting.
