It looks like they might have all the digging done to put in the footers. We don’t have a basement so the footers don’t go too deep.

The frost line is apparently only 4 feet here. And the big reason why we aren’t going with a basement is because we wanted to use the concrete slab as a heat sink for all the windows on the south side, as the finished floor with radiant heat, and the bottom of the house. Also, we are going to be using some of the sand under the slab as more of the heat sink.

Then you’ll put the world’s fastest CPU *ever* on top of that heat sink.

No basement? I thought foundations had to go to the frost line, which is why we have basements in the frozen north (frost line is 6 feet here)
