This past Saturday was the NSPN (our local sea kayak club) summer solstice paddle and picnic. The weather was not promising. It poured buckets and flashed and thundered on the drive down. But by the actual start time, the storms were gone. Tyson wanted to go with the more advanced group, whereas I was worried about not being in good enough shape. We stuck with the group for a while, but then when there was an option to go out farther to sea and play in some waves vs head straighter to lunch, we opted for the shorter route along with one other person. Our route was not without fun. I fact, I found one spot right near lunch where there were some waves wrapping around the end of the island and breaking. It looked like a fun place to surf in, but I did not pay enough attention to how big some of the waves were and I got surfed up onto the rocks. The net result being another ding in my boat. Then the others met back up with us for lunch. Then we all paddled back to the picnic.
