The pouring rain Wednesday night tapered off into a dreary, exceptionally warm Christmas Eve. We finished our errands in the morning, ate an early lunch, and then headed over to Mt Watatic to enjoy the rest of the day.
This was my parents’ first hike with Isaac walking all the way. They got used to the speed. Tyson took presents over to Stacey’s and caught up with us not far up the trail.
The trail was busy with all sorts of other people enjoying the afternoon outside. Isaac remembered the big climbing rocks from his hike with Tyson, but everything was too wet and slippery from the rain to climb.
As we approached the top, the clouds blew so low over the mountain that Isaac exclaimed “the sky is moving!” I pulled out cookies to enjoy up top, but the wind almost blew my Mom and I over. After a quick look at the view, we headed back. Even in the wind, it was quite warm.
Isaac had reasonable spirits for the climb up, but he required a little more motivation on the way down. We settled on him driving the train, and everyone else “sitting in their seats.” We had frequent derailments as the engine stopped and the rest of us kept hiking. Tyson said it was even harder hiking slowly with Isaac in a big group than on his own. We got back to the car just before headlamps were necessary.
