The biggest news is that my parents are in town and fully vaccinated. It’s the first time we have seen them in ages.
It’s mud season up north, so a good time to hike locally in southern NH. Here it is just the beginning of spring when all the little flowers and ephemeral plants pop up.
We checked on the carvings near the Harris Center. The dragon and snake looked the same as last time. The salamander now has spots. And we found the start of a new carving off the side of the trail.
We started at the Cadot trail, which is kind of the back way in to the area. The Cadot Trail starts on the old Whittmore Road and then veers off up the mountain. My research into old maps last time led me to think that the road was only a farm road. This time we explored around the area where the trail turns off the road. We found two dips that might have been cellar holes. One of them had a pile of bricks nearby that might have been a chimney, except the bricks had no mortar. The road disappears for a bit there, but we found where the parallel rock walls pick up farther along.
