Cobscook practice day
Emilie Phillips
After getting up early and challenging fog and whirlpools on Thursday, we took a lower key day Friday. We got a lazy start after most of the fog had burned off and paddled straight across the bay to Eastport. Our goal was the gravel bar between Mathews and Sumac island, both conservation land. There we practiced rescues and rolls. Everyone practiced rescuing everyone. We each in turn flipped over and swam out of our boat. Then our assigned rescuer helped us climb back in. If the rescuer was an adult, they drained the boat first. I got a little chilly hanging out in the water in my wetsuit. The others all wore their drysuit. My Dad worked with Isaac to do his first assisted roll. It took two tries and Grandpa supporting the paddle, buy Isaac came back up! After that we paddled back to the house for lobster dinner.
