Hurricane Lee passed offshore last Saturday. The forecast wind and rain prohibited gliding Saturday and were marginal for Sunday. The waves were forecast to be 15 second period (nice for surfing), but 16 feet tall (a bit out of our league). The last time we paddled waves from a hurricane was back in 2010 when we were much more proficient at sea kayaking. Those waves were smaller, and even that was a bit of an adventure.
Instead we cut and split wood. It turned out to be a lovely day. A few sprinkles in the morning, then nice and breezy to keep us cool. We have over half the wood cut, but probably only a third split. I need to spend lunch breaks for the next few weeks splitting the rest.
Sunday, Tyson went out gliding and got more practice towards his check ride. I helped out with a kid’s aviation event at our airport. One of the moms put on the event for the families at their preschool. I made twenty or so kids happy by letting them sit in the RV-4.
