Franconia Falls

All three of us hiked up to Fanconia Falls on Thursday as a fun family event before Isaac went off to summer camp. The hike is 3.5 miles each way, mostly on a wide, gravel railroad grade. Isaac was really excited to show me the deep kettle hole and a wide slide down into a pool. Tyson wanted me to try the sluice and plummet into a larger pool. The water was higher and colder than last time they were there. The current was strong enough that I went over one rapid I hadn’t intended to. It was fun. Then we explored upstream and found a bigger pool and a 20 ft high cliff people were jumping off. Tyson had to go try that. After an hour of splashing around and swimming, Isaac and I were cold, so we warmed up on the hot rocks. While we were drying off, an adventurous family showed up. They tried a bunch of slides that I had been uncertain about. It was almost enough to convince me to get back in.

None of us remembered a waterproof camera, so there aren’t many pictures of swimming.
