Russell Forest rock climbing

Saturday we joined Sarah, Mike, and family for an afternoon of rock climbing. The point was time with friends, not hard climbing, so we picked a small out of the way crag — Schist Creek in Russell Forest. The climbs were short, but not quite short enough to use one rope on two climbs. Sarah didn’t quite lower to the ground after leading the second one. I did all four climbs. My favorite was the lay back. Tyson attempted all 4, but couldn’t get the crux on the hardest because his climbing shoes disagreed with him.

Near the end, Mike received a call for search and rescue volunteers to carry a hiker out from the top of Mt Liberty. Given all the information about the person’s condition, a helicopter seemed like a better idea than carrying out on a litter. Regardless, we shuffled gear and cars around so Mike could go. An hour later, we heard a helicopter fly north. They had been waiting for weather to clear.
