Lyme Pinnacle, aka Jed’s retirement AMC trip

We joined Darrell and Jed for Jed’s last time leading an AMC trip and the 1,001st trip he has led (or so he claims). It was intended as a beginner trip, so not very long. There was some confusion about whether to bring heavier skis for turns, or lighter skis for touring. We ended up with all combinations. Everyone was happy enough with their personal choice given the terrain and the slight crust buried in the snow pack.

The trails were a mix of old farm roads and rambling hiking trails through the woods. We were all surprised to find the top wide open with views in all directions. It looks like someone has recently cleared all the trees except the old apple orchard. There’s a chimney at the very top too. That must have been quite the view from the farm house back in the day. We decided the walk to school would have been daunting. The ski back down would be lots of fun with powder. Easy old school tele and leather boots turns.

The map of the area is somewhat hard to find. Look for “Lyme Pinnacle” on the Upper Valley Land Trust site. Or here is a copy of the PDF.
