Tyson and Isaac agreed to come do a long hike with me. There was some negotiation, even after we started the hike. I wanted to hike 15 miles up over Ragged Mountain, do a loop on some of the Proctor Academy trails, and hike back over the mountain on the Sunapee Ragged Greenway (SRKG). Tyson slipped and fell in a stream a quarter mile from the start. Tyson was also having flashbacks to last time I picked an overly ambitious route on the SRKG in 2011. Back then, we didn’t reach the summit of Kearsarge. By the time we got to the top of Ragged, neither Tyson nor Isaac wanted to hike back up it. So we compromised on an extra side trail to see more views, a stop at an ice cream shop near Proctor Academy, a pizza shop in town in Andover, and hiking back the flat Northern Rail Trail for a total of 14 miles. We even found fresh sourdough bread at a farm stand. And plenty of good views.
We will have to come back some other time to do the second half of Section 9 of the SRKG.
