The Cedar Brook trip starts at the hairpin turn on the Kancamagus, climbs up to the height of land between Hancock and Hitchcock, then follows old railroad grades down to the Pemigewasset and out to the Lincoln Woods parking area. This is a long (13 mile) back country trip. The middle portion is usually untracked and deep with powder. Depending on the group’s skill level, this trip frequently finishes after dark.
Unfortunately in recent years the trees next to the trail have grown in at skiing height, and the forest service rules prohibit pruning that high above the summer ground. So the last time we skied it in 2019, it was an unpleasant bushwhack. For summer time hiking, it is still well maintained.
