The east side of Mount Washington may get more snow, but the west side has many fewer people and a wonderful backcountry feel. Oakes gulf is best accessed from the Cog Railway parking lot. From there, take the Ammonoosuc ravine trail up to Lakes of the Clouds and then cross over into Oakes Gulf. We usually ski back out via Monroe Brook. On really good snow years, we have skied up and down Ammonoosuc Ravine.
