Delmarva Paddlers Retreat
This was the 30th annual Greenland qajaq symposium at Camp Arrowhead, on Rehoboth Bay, Delaware sponsored by Qajaq USA. Multiple classes were available through the 4 day symposium. Participants were mostly mid to older adults with some down to late 20s. Skill levels were from beginner to competition rollers and paddlers. Everyone was using Greenland paddles, though some were new to the paddle.
During our 3 day stay, we worked on new skills and reinforcing existing skills – edging and bracing; sculling; advanced strokes and maneuvers; and rolls. Other available classes and workshops included – forward stroke; basic getting into a skin-on-frame qajaq; rescues and towing; qajaq skinning; paddle making; working with Neoprene; float bag; sea socks; steam bending ribs; harpoons; building a qajaq; ropes course.
We both improved our sculling skills and learned some details on other strokes. Trudy made progress on her forward finishing roll and gained more confidence in her traditional lay back roll.
