The week we returned from skiing in Colorado, it rained, turned warm, and rained more. The pathetic New Hampshire winter was over. Everything below 2,000′ was brown. Rather than desperately scraping my skis on remnants of brown snow, I contented myself with having ended the season with the great skiing in Colorado. And then, winter […]
Skiing
All good vacations come to an end. Friday we had to leave. First, we enjoyed another breakfast in the company of the other skiers. There was a new pair the previous night. We got to chatting with one of them. She had booked the hut last minute because the winds were too high to fly […]
This day was the reward for our hard work. Isaac had agreed to the whole notion of climbing back up a mountain solely so he could ski laps today.
Going up the mountains again, to Fowler/Hilliard
The best part of Wednesday was the fresh cinnamon rolls when we arrived at the hut. Or maybe it was the panoramic view of mountain peaks when we crested the southern ridge of Mount Resolution.
The night before, Sunday evening, we had a hard decision to make. Should we continue on to Friends hut?C. back home sent us the abbreviated weather and avalanche forecast via satellite messenger. Forecast @11k ft: MON: High 25F, winds 30mph from W. 1″ snow before sunset. Then 18″ overnight thru TUE AM. Temps drop throughout […]
This is the third post of the 2024 Colorado Hut Skiing trip. The trek up to Tagert starts on an unplowed road that bisects a groomed cross country ski area. The parking is rather confusing. We hoped we guessed right. At 10AM when we got on the trail, it was sunny and 10F. We all […]
Colorado Braun hut trip preparation

It took me 3 days to ski St. Mary’s Glacier. I managed to fly out to Colorado ahead of Emilie and Isaac so that I could acclimate to the altitude. I arrived in Colorado on Sunday and drove up to my rented apartment located next to St. Mary’s Glacier at just over 10,000 ft. The […]
The winter is a wonderful time to get out in the woods. We enjoy untracked snow in New England on cross country and Telemark skis.
